No setup
Connecting DeepSeek to developer agent tools usually means editing a config: the API address, the model name, environment variables. Here there is none of that. You paste the key in the dashboard, and the dashboard checks it and shows your balance.
How to get a DeepSeek API key
- Sign in at platform.deepseek.com.
- Top up your balance: the DeepSeek API is prepaid.
- In the API keys section, create a key and save it right away.
How to connect the key to your employee
- In the dashboard, open the employee's page, experimental features, and click + Connect DeepSeek with your own API key (experimental) (or Connect a subscription on the Subscriptions page).
- Paste the key. The dashboard checks it and shows your balance.
- Click Make active, and the employee thinks on DeepSeek. You can move just one chat or topic instead. You can go back to Claude at any moment with the same button.
What it costs
The work is paid from your DeepSeek balance at their API rates, and your subscriptions are not used. When the balance runs low, the employee warns you itself; at zero it stops and asks you to top up or go back to Claude.
Honestly about quality
Today DeepSeek reasons more simply than Claude in agent work. Keep important work on Claude; DeepSeek is good for trying out and for simple tasks, for example a separate chat for quick lookups. We connected it ahead of time: models catch up fast, and when DeepSeek gets there, the switch is already in place.
